Brand Identity, Digital Design, Social Media, Collateral
Identity, Website, Social Media, Collateral design for a non-profit organization that provides literacy experiences through a wide range of opportunities.
About
Open Books is a non-profit that provides literacy experiences through a wide range of opportunities. They help students improve their reading and writing skills along side experienced educators and dedicated volunteers. They also provide readers of all ages with books through their Book Grants. Each week, thousands of books get delivered to schools and non-profits across Chicago.
Funding for their work comes in large part from generous donors, the sale of donated books at Pilsen and West Loop stores, as well as online.

Concept
I redesigned the Open Books logo to make it more legible across all types of media, big and small. After visiting their location, I found the atmosphere and staff to be very warm and welcoming, so I wanted that to be translated in the logo. The logo has a playful font while the graphic feels organic, showing a down to earth feel. Since it’s a local business, I incorporated the Chicago skyline. I made it look like books on a shelf to show what their business is all about. I went with a soft purple to incorporate the colors red and blue. Red to communicate the care and passion they have for educating kids and blue to show they’re trustworthy.
